City reminds customers of festive season office closures

The City of Cape Town’s customer offices will be closed on some days during the festive season. Customers should consider making use of the City’s e-Services and convenient online payment options where possible, especially in light of the data indicating a COVID-19 resurgence.

The City reminds customers of its customer office closures for public holidays during the festive season. Customer offices (cash receiving, account enquiries, motor vehicle registration and licensing) as well as Traffic Services’ driving license testing centres (DLTCs), municipal courts and housing offices will be closed on some days over the festive season period.

Customer tips

• If possible, customers should perform their business online or via e-Services rather than visiting the customer offices
• Customers could make use of the various convenient retail payment options available rather than visiting a customer office
• If they go to a customer office, they are advised to go early in the morning or to choose another day if they see the lines are too long
• Our staff gives preference to pensioners (65 and above) and people with disabilities at all of our customer offices
• Customers should always check their motor vehicle license discs to see when their license is up for renewal
• Customers visiting housing and rental offices should please make an appointment prior to visiting an office as an operational requirement to adhere to COVID-19 precautions

‘We encourage customers to make their plans to visit a City customer office ahead of time, and to consider making use of the City’s convenient and safe online service offerings. However, if it is required to visit an office, please ensure that you practice social distancing and wear your mask. City facilities continue to operate in accordance with the necessary COVID-19 precautions as guided by the Western Cape Government and National authorities and customers should adhere to these protocols when visiting our offices. During this extraordinary time and in light of the data showing a resurgence in COVID-19 infections, no contact options for conducting municipal business remains absolutely vital offerings. Please avoid crowded areas and facilities and rather conduct your business online where possible,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance and Executive Deputy Mayor, Alderman Ian Neilson.

Customers can pay their municipal accounts (excluding motor vehicle licenses and traffic fines) at any Shoprite, Checkers, USave, Pick n Pay, PEP, Ackermans, Lewis, Top It Up, Woolworths and selected Spar shops. Please note that the South African Post Office is no longer a City-service provider for account and traffic fine payments.

Residents may also make payments using their bank’s website. The City is listed as a beneficiary at all the major banks, so it is not required to load the City’s details when doing transactions.

For account and City-rental payments:

• Online: www.Easypay.co.za or www.powertime.co.za
• EFTs: Select the City as a bank-listed beneficiary. Use only your nine-digit municipal account number as reference
• Retailers: Shoprite, Checkers, USave, Pick n Pay, PEP, Ackermans, Lewis, Top It Up, Woolworths and selected Spar shops
• ATM: contact your bank to add the City as an ATM beneficiary

Customers are reminded of the following National Transport regulations (note fines are nationally determined, the City may not unilaterally write off fines):

• Discs that have expired on 30 November 2020: renew by 22 December 2020
• Discs that expire on 31 December 2020: renew by 22 January 2021
• Motor trade vehicle numbers/trade plates: renew by 30 November 2020
• Driver’s and learner’s licenses: renew by 31 January 2021
